Dental Implants

Dental ImplantsDental implants make it possible to eat, chew, and speak normally again after losing a tooth. Unlike traditional denture and bridge treatments, implants provide an unmatched level of stability and strength to tooth replacements. Implants are one of our most recommended tooth replacement options!

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small metal screws that support one or more artificial teeth. They are surgically attached to the jaw bone and function like a natural tooth root. Once an implant has healed, your crown, bridgework, or dentures will be attached to a post above the surface of the gums.

Implants are made from titanium. Titanium is a bio-friendly metal that is often used in other medical procedures such as hip and knee replacements. Over time, the implant will merge with the bone and keep your jaw healthy and strong. Patients who choose implants often say that they can’t even tell they have had a tooth replacement. Implants look, feel, and function just like natural teeth.

Why Should I Have My Tooth Replaced?

When you lose a tooth, it is important to get a replacement as soon as possible. Although it may not seem like a big deal, leaving a gap in your teeth can lead to a variety of oral health problems.
Without a tooth replacement, the surrounding teeth may begin to fall into the hole. Over time, this can affect your ability to chew and bite normally. In addition to protecting your teeth, getting a tooth replacement is important for the health of your jaw. Your jaw bone depends on your tooth roots to stay healthy. If a gap is left untreated, the bone may eventually begin to erode. This can cause serious, permanent problems.
Thankfully, tooth replacements not only restore your smile’s appearance, but they also prevent many of these problems from developing. Implants act like roots and promote bone growth along the jaw. By filling the gap left by a missing tooth, implants also prevent neighboring teeth from shifting and falling out of place.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Because dental implants require surgery, our doctors may not recommend this treatment for everyone. Those with other oral health problems or with weak bones may not be eligible for implants.
