Dentures
Every year, dental techniques and technology improve. Today, dentures are more comfortable, more efficient, and more reliable than ever before. For those who need multiple teeth replaced, full or partial dentures may be the perfect solution.
What is the Difference Between Full and Partial Dentures?
Dentures are devices used to replace several teeth at once. Full dentures replace all of the teeth in a full dental arch. Partial dentures replace a few teeth. Each type of dentures are custom-created and designed to resemble natural teeth.
Full, removable dentures are held into place by a suction effect between your gums and dentures. This keeps them in place throughout the day. Depending on the patient’s needs and preferences, our doctors may recommend the use of a specialty glue to hold the dentures in place. Partial dentures are ordinarily held in place by a framework of metal wires and screws. These wires are woven around your healthy teeth and use clasps to hold the dentures in place.
Is There a More Permanent Solution?
If you are having problems with your removable dentures or would like more stability in your everyday life, speak with us about dental implants. Our doctors and their committed team can install dental implants to act as posts for your dentures. These implants will hold your dentures in place and can provide you with a more natural-feeling set of teeth.
Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible for dental implants. Our doctors will evaluate your oral health and check for any underlying jaw problems before moving forward with implants.
How Do I Take Care of My Dentures?
Most dentures are simple and easy to care for. Traditional full and partial dentures can both be removed when needed. After eating, remove your dentures and rinse them off. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean the surface. This will help prevent plaque and tartar build-up. Toothpaste and mouthwash can be hard on your dentures. Instead of using traditional dental products, wash your appliance with mild soap and water.
At night, remove your dentures and place them in a sterilizing container. If you are not using your dentures, be sure to keep them moist in cleaning solution or water to avoid cracking. Even if you have a full set of dentures, continue to keep up with your daily oral hygiene to keep your mouth and gums healthy.
