Crowns

CrownsDental crowns are used in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. When placed over a tooth, crowns can repair damage and provide extra strength. At Elite Smiles Dental, we use state-of-the-art technology and dental techniques to make beautiful, natural-looking crowns.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are small caps used to repair damage, replace a tooth, or strengthen a weakened tooth. They are usually made from porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. Crowns are carefully designed in a dental lab to match the shape and color of your natural teeth. Because they are made from porcelain, crowns are very strong and can last a lifetime.

What Can Dental Crowns Fix?

Crowns are a perfect treatment for a variety of oral health issues. Because they look and feel natural, they are a popular treatment option for cosmetic and restorative procedures. Crowns provide a beautiful, durable, and permanent solution to a long list of injuries and tooth defects.

Our doctors may recommend a dental crown for:

· Chipped, fractured, or cracked teeth
· Teeth with severe blemishes
· Teeth that are too small or look too small
· Teeth with large fillings
· Broken teeth

Crowns can also replace missing teeth. For a dental bridge, a crown is placed over the tooth on either side of the hole for support. Another crown is held in place by the bridge structure. For dental implants, our doctors will attach a custom crown to the implant’s post above the gum line. In both of these procedures, the crown acts as a replacement tooth.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

A crown typically takes two visits to place. During your first visit, our doctors will take an impression of your tooth. Digital images will also be taken to ensure your final crown matches the color of your surrounding teeth. Afterward, the impression and images will be sent to a professional dental lab to be made into your final crown. Our doctors may provide you with a temporary crown until your permanent one is ready.

During your second visit, our team will prepare your tooth for its new crown. Once your tooth is ready, your permanent crown will be cemented into place.

How Do I Care for My Crown?

With proper care, crowns can last for years – even decades. To care for your new crown, continue to brush and floss every day. When possible, make sure your toothpaste, mouth wash, and other dental hygiene products contain fluoride.

To protect your crown from damage, our doctors also recommend avoiding hard or very sticky foods. If your crown chips or breaks, let us know right away.
